The IFC SDI 19 scheme

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) have recently published a new article titled IFC Smoke Control Design & Installer UKAS Scheme.

This piece, written by Allan Hurdle, Technical Consultant to the Smoke Control Association and presenter at our  Controlling Smoke for a Clearer Future seminar in 2019, focuses on the formation of the IFC SDI 19 Scheme to which FDS Group are accredited.

The SDI 19 certification scheme has been developed by the Smoke Control Association in partnership with IFC Certfication. The scheme was primarily developed to ensure a suitable and acceptable level of competency with regard to fire strategy verification, system design and the installation of smoke control systems.

To further improve competency levels in the industry, the SCA has also made it a mandatory requirement that all members and potential members whom install smoke ventilation systems must join the IFC SDI 19 installer scheme. This was something Allan was keen to stress the importance of, during Controlling Smoke for a Clearer Future. To further support this and justify the schemes importance, FDS Groups Managing Director, Nick Waterfield had the following to say:

“The IFC SDI 19 Scheme is a very important initiative for the smoke ventilation industry as it helps to identify the companies who are competent to install these life safety systems and it will also encourage more consistency throughout our industry.

I’m delighted that FDS Contracting are accredited to the scheme and this goes hand-in-hand with us recently also achieving LPS1014 accreditation for the provision of fire alarm systems.

Clients now have somewhere to go when choosing their fire protection suppliers”
